Understanding Your Concern
Many people arrive holding a chart drawn years ago, sometimes by a family astrologer and sometimes printed from a website. It is worth knowing what to check on it before putting any weight on what you have been told about it.
The Checks Worth Making
First, whether it is sidereal or tropical. Most Western software defaults to tropical, which shifts placements by roughly twenty-four degrees and produces an entirely different Indian reading.
Second, the ascendant, which depends on an exact time. Third, whether the divisional charts were drawn at all, since a marriage or career conclusion made without the relevant divisional chart is a partial one.

What to Do With an Old Reading
An inherited chart is worth keeping and worth recalculating. Where a previous reading said something alarming, it is addressed directly: what placement it came from, whether that placement reads that way, and whether the conclusion follows.
Sometimes it does, and then it is confirmed. Frequently the alarming part turns out to rest on a birth time that was never reliable.
